Call for Contributors

UNREEL IS OPEN TO CONTRIBUTORS. Chief among our banner missions as a publication is to champion emerging and established voices in film criticism and writing.

We’re continually looking to work with writers who want to use Unreel’s platform to keep the spirit of local film discussion alive.

Usapang Pelikula — that is, ultimately, what we’re trying to enrich. Everything else, to us, is noise. We strive to do this without submitting to the fickle whims of social algorithms or the dogmatic hands of display advertisers.

If that sounds good to you and would like to write for Unreel, we implore you to pitch your writing.

But before you proceed, here are a few things worth noting.

  1. Being a completely free platform (for now), we currently don’t offer compensation to our contributors. You’ll get free access to screeners and screening invites to local and international festivals.

  2. If we ever convert into a paid publication, you can rest assured we will compensate our writers fairly. There are no plans to move to paid currently, but should it happen, it would be restricted to paid subscriptions on Substack and native partnerships (i.e. content sponsors, affiliate marketing).

  3. You own your writing. You are free to publish it elsewhere.

  4. Unlike other outlets, we publish slow and with intention. We make sure your piece is given due space to occupy.

Now, onto the stuff we like publishing.

We want pieces with unique perspectives on film, the culture of watching movies, and the industry in which it operates. We’re also publishing reviews but don’t feel too pressured to keep up with current releases.

Send your pitches to our email unreelph@gmail.com. We’ll do our best to respond as soon as we can.
